In addition to local Taiwanese talents, artists from Sweden, Iraq, Spain, Japan, and Turkey have successively arrived in Hualien to begin their residency and creation journey, with the event opening on May 1st.
The Hualien County Government Tourism Department stated that this competition centers on the spirit of "Leave No Trace creation." Participants must use local gravel, driftwood, and marine waste as materials for their creations, with works needing to be at least 2 meters in diameter and capable of withstanding the natural challenges of sea breeze and tides. This is not only a competition of skill but also an artistic practice of coexisting with the land, seeking constancy amidst change and embodying order within nature.
Tourism Department Director Yu Ming-hsun pointed out that the total prize money for this competition reaches NT$320,000, with the highest prize for the "Golden Stone Award" being NT$80,000. Online popularity voting will be open from April 28th to 29th, inviting the public to participate in this visual and spiritual feast.
