(CNA Reporter Cheung Chien, Hong Kong, 15th) The Hong Kong authorities held a flag-raising ceremony today for 'National Security Education Day'. Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki emphasized during his speech at the ceremony that the Hong Kong government will continuously deepen national security education to prevent all security risks.

The flag-raising ceremony was held this morning at the Hong Kong Police College. He stated that the theme of this year's 'National Security Education Day' is 'Proactively Aligning with the 15th Five-Year Plan, Persisting in Coordinating Development and Security'. This is a reminder to everyone to better integrate into and serve the overall situation of China's national development, to act actively, and to live up to the expectations of the times.

He added that the Hong Kong government will continue a multi-pronged approach to consolidate the national security defense system and enhance law enforcement coordination capabilities. Concurrently, it will deepen comprehensive national security education, adhere to 'patriots governing Hong Kong', and prevent and resolve all security risks.

On July 1, 2015, the 15th session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress of China passed the National Security Law and designated April 15 of each year as 'National Security Education Day'.

Following the outbreak of the 'Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement' in Hong Kong in 2019, the Hong Kong government closely followed Beijing in vigorously promoting and implementing national security education in society. (Editor: Chu Chien-ling)
