(CNA Reporter Hung Hsueh-kuang, Kaohsiung, 16th) Chen Hsin-yu, who served 4 terms as a Kaohsiung City Councilor, was indicted for corruption during her tenure as the head of the Taipei City Department of Labor. She was separately found to have allegedly defrauded over NT$5 million in assistant fees during her time as a councilor. Prosecutors and investigators interviewed her and her spouse yesterday. After questioning, they were released on bail of NT$400,000 and NT$100,000 respectively.
Chen Hsin-yu was re-elected for 4 terms as a councilor for the Xiaogang and Qianzhen districts of Kaohsiung City. Later, she served as the Director of the Department of Labor of the Taipei City Government. However, because she was suspected of using false invoices to write off the head's special expenses and leaking labor inspection data during her tenure, she was indicted by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for violating the Anti-Corruption Act and the Criminal Code for leaking secrets. The whole case is currently still on trial.
However, investigative units recently discovered that Chen Hsin-yu was suspected of defrauding assistant fees during her time as a councilor. Prosecutors and investigators summoned multiple assistants and related personnel to the case and found that she defrauded over NT$5 million. Yesterday, Chen Hsin-yu and her spouse were summoned for explanation. After re-interrogation by the Kaohsiung prosecutors, an order was issued early this morning for Chen Hsin-yu and her spouse to be bailed at NT$400,000 and NT$100,000 respectively.
