(Central News Agency Reporter Li Chien-chu, Taipei, April 20) This year's Nagoya Asian Games, due to the vast competition zones, the Ministry of Sport, in conjunction with the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and the National Sports Training Center, has established three relay stations. Among them, Misono Elementary School in Nagoya City has become the first "one-stop" relay station in history, allowing athletes and coaches to avoid the hassle of traveling.
In line with previous Asian and Olympic Games, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and the National Sports Training Center have cooperated to set up three relay stations in the Nagoya urban area, the Toyohashi district, and a Tokyo satellite station. The Nagoya area relay station is located at Misono Elementary School and is expected to be supported by a staff of over 25 people, making it the largest of the three relay stations.
Misono Elementary School is a disused school in Nagoya City, with ownership belonging to Nagoya City. The ability to rent this venue this time is largely due to the Foundation of Tainan City Japan-Taiwan Cultural Friendship Exchange.
Ms. Guo Zhen-hui, Honorary Chairman of the Foundation, stated that when President Lai was still the Mayor of Tainan, the two sides had already established a very friendly relationship, which indirectly facilitated this cooperation. Taiwan is also the only country this year to be able to rent a relay station for the Asian Games.
This "full-building" rental of Misono Elementary School also led Minister of Sport Li Yang, Deputy Minister Hung Chi-chang, and relevant personnel from the National Sports Training Center and Sports Science to spend over an hour conducting a thorough site inspection. Minister Li even provided many suggestions while looking at the design blueprints.
Hung Chi-chang, in a media interview, said that the current plan is to have the first floor of the school serve as the headquarters, reception, restaurant, and dining area, while the second floor will be the training area, as well as medical care, physical therapy, or treatment areas requiring more privacy.
"The indoor gymnasium on the second floor is temporarily planned as a training and warm-up venue for badminton and judo, and green mats will also be placed for other combat sports to practice," Hung Chi-chang mentioned.
Hung Chi-chang pointed out that finding a place with such a large space for utilization is indeed not easy. He expressed great gratitude to the Foundation of Tainan City Japan-Taiwan Cultural Friendship Exchange for their help. "This space can be utilized very well and can bring great convenience to athletes and coaches."
Hung Chi-chang emphasized that this is likely the first "one-stop" relay station since the Asian and Olympic Games began establishing relay stations. Athletes and coaches can warm up, recover, train, receive physical therapy, and eat all in one place, without needing to run around. (Editor: Chen Ren-hua) 1150420
