(CNA Reporter Hung Su-chin, Taipei, 19th) The documentary 'Legendary Diva: Kao Chu-hua' reveals the poignant life of the protagonist, who, as a survivor of the White Terror, was used by the state yet forced into silence. Former President Tsai Ing-wen attended a private screening yesterday. She stated that she was deeply shocked and that it allowed her to see a more profound side of Taiwan's history.
Tsai Ing-wen stated through a press release that she was deeply touched by Kao Chu-hua's story. "For an almost legendary woman like Kao Chu-hua to learn foreign songs and survive in a complex environment is very shocking to me. I am very grateful to the production team for capturing Kao Chu-hua's story, allowing us to see the more profound side of Taiwan's history."
Tsai Ing-wen mentioned that seeing Kao Chu-hua's appearance in her later years on the big screen reminded her of her own grandmother, who was also from an indigenous tribe and knew how to sing; it was a very familiar image to her. However, seeing Kao Chu-hua's story revealed a very deep, complex, and painful process. She was thankful that this film lets everyone know what women might have experienced.
After Tsai Ing-wen concluded her speech, the film's producer, Hsiung Ju-hsien, presented her with gifts: the "Spring God of Tsou" memorial album of Kao Chu-hua's father, Uongu Yatauyungana (Kao Yi-sheng), and the "Pa-na-na" audio-visual album, allowing her to continue savoring the lingering emotions of the movie through music.
'Legendary Diva: Kao Chu-hua' will be released in theaters across Taiwan on May 15th. (Editor: Kuan Chung-wei) 1150419
