(CNA Reporter Chiang Yi-ching, Yunlin County, 19th) The Taichung Dajia Jenn Lann Temple Mazu pilgrimage started on the 17th and arrived in Xiluo Township, Yunlin County, around 8:00 PM today. The Xiluo Farmers' Association and Xintian Temple prepared thousands of meals, hosting pilgrims in a buffet style. Yunlin police also deployed an additional 500 personnel for security to prevent conflicts.

The Dajia Mazu pilgrimage started on the evening of the 17th. The 9-day, 8-night journey covers 340 kilometers and passes through four counties/cities: Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, and Chiayi.

The arrival of the Dajia Mazu palanquin in Changhua County was delayed by over 5 hours. The palanquin carriers hurried along the route and arrived at the Xiluo Bridge around 8:00 PM, where tens of thousands of people welcomed the Mazu palanquin into their jurisdiction with applause instead of firecrackers.

The Yunlin County Police Bureau stated that they originally planned to deploy 2,000 personnel today, tomorrow, and the 22nd. However, due to conflict incidents in Changhua County, the number was increased to 2,500 personnel, including SWAT teams, detectives, and volunteer police. There were 40 officers securing the area directly around the palanquin alone.

The Mazu palanquin is stationed at Fuxing Temple in Xiluo, Yunlin County tonight. Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan, KMT legislators Chang Chia-chun and Hsu Yu-chen, and Xiluo Township Mayor Liao Chiu-ping welcomed the procession on the Xiluo Bridge. Surrounded by tens of thousands of people, the Mazu palanquin arrived in Xiluo Township.

To welcome the tens of thousands of pilgrims, Xintian Temple and the Xiluo Farmers' Association prepared ingredients for thousands of people and hosted banquets in a buffet style today and will do so again on the 22nd.

Liao Chin-fu, general manager of the Xiluo Farmers' Association, stated that in recent years, temple culture has formed a tourism trend. In addition to temples launching cultural and creative products, localities are also promoting local agricultural specialties. Therefore, the farmers' association combined religious pilgrimage activities to promote Xiluo rice and other agricultural specialties, saying, "We must never let the pilgrims go hungry!"

The Xiluo Farmers' Association prepared ingredients for over 2,000 people. Since yesterday, dozens of staff members have been making rice dishes such as savory rice pudding (Wa-gui) and mugwort cakes. Today at the scene, they stir-fried vegetables and deep-fried vegetable meatballs, preparing nearly 30 local delicacies. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150419
