TAIPEI, April 15 (CNA) – The Asian Beach Games are set to take place in Sanya, China. Taiwan's national record holder in high jump, Ye Bo-ting, has overcome a low period of "high jump amnesia" and hopes to reach the podium, with his subsequent goal being to qualify for the Nagoya Asian Games.
Two years ago, Ye Bo-ting set a national high jump record at the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, seemingly on the verge of a career peak. However, he fell into a slump due to a torn ligament in his left ankle, reaching a critical point after the Asian Championships, which forced him to rest for a month. Upon his return, he experienced a problem similar to "high jump amnesia," coupled with diminished muscle strength and nerve response, leading to a dismal end to last season.
Representing Taiwan in the high jump event at the Asian Beach Games, Ye Bo-ting told CNA that although the condition of the competition venue is not yet confirmed, he considers it a very challenging pre-competition adjustment. He hopes to step onto the podium and then qualify for the Nagoya Asian Games at the upcoming National Intercollegiate Athletic Games and New Taipei City International Athletics Open, fulfilling his Asian Games dream.
Ye Bo-ting stated that his recovery is currently very good, almost complete. However, the biggest challenge to overcome is psychological. He worries about re-injuring the same area and fears that all his previous efforts might be in vain. Bearing the title of national record holder, the pressure to constantly improve sometimes causes him anxiety.
Ye Bo-ting shared that he must forget the past difficulties, pursue spiritual growth, and show a completely transformed self. He is trying to adjust his mindset through meditation, hoping to compete with a free and easy spirit. He believes that this period of experience might be the key to another breakthrough. "I think it's been a great growth experience," he said. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150415
