(Central News Agency, Reporter Tsai Chih-ming, Chiayi City, 18th) Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS) Chairman Fang Leuh donated NT$1 million to his alma mater, National Chiayi Senior High School, to establish a "semiconductor classroom" which was unveiled today. The classroom aims to help lay the foundation for tech education and features an eye-catching display of 2-inch to 18-inch wafers.

Chiayi High School celebrated its 102nd anniversary and unveiled the "semiconductor classroom." Several alumni who graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University attended, though Fang Leuh could not be present as he was abroad.

According to a press release from VIS, Chiayi High School established a "semiconductor experimental class" in 2024 to cultivate talent. VIS supported the school's development of specialized semiconductor courses with practical actions.

Fang Leuh donated 1 million NTD to support Chiayi High School in upgrading teaching equipment in the semiconductor classroom and setting up scholarships. VIS also donated wafers to serve as display materials, helping students gain a more concrete understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and industrial applications, demonstrating the concrete actions of the enterprise and school joining hands in tech education and talent cultivation.

Chen Yuan-Tai, Principal of Chiayi High School, said the school established the first "semiconductor experimental class" and "semiconductor classroom" among high schools nationwide, allowing students to gain a preliminary understanding of semiconductor manufacturing—from wafer fabrication, oxidation, polishing, ion implantation, thin-film deposition to photolithography and etching processes—without leaving the campus.

In addition, Chiayi High School also held a plaque unveiling ceremony for "Tao Bi Building." This old 3-story building, originally an instructor's office and laboratory, was renovated with an 8.5 million NTD donation from outstanding alumnus Lai Wen-Hsiang, Chairman of Century Iron & Steel Industrial Co., Ltd. A green energy wind power exhibition area was set up on the first floor. Lai Wen-Hsiang said the exhibition area was set up to tell students that Taiwan does not produce oil and must develop green energy to ensure energy security. (Editor: Li Ming-tsung) 1150418
