Golden Horse Best Actor Tony Leung attended a press conference today, April 14, for his new film "Stille Freundin" (你是不會當樹嗎). He joked that visiting universities during his free time while filming in Germany felt like fulfilling a university dream. When asked what plant he resembled, he said a "night-blooming cereus," ordinary normally but fragrant when acting. Leung and Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi attended the press conference for the new film. Leung expressed his happiness to bring a new work to Taiwanese audiences, finding the filming process enjoyable and inspiring. He stated that he could prepare for the role in three months but took six, savoring the process like a meal. In the film, Leung plays a neuroscientist who conducts experiments on trees, with a full nude scene at the end, which he deemed necessary for the character's experimental context. Enyedi admitted to being shy but enjoyed seeing the small crew build camaraderie like a family. Leung shared that his short stay in Germany felt like living in a dream city, wandering around and fulfilling an unfinished university dream. Enyedi likened herself to a "birch tree," while Leung chose the "night-blooming cereus," explaining that he is ordinary outside of work but exudes charm when performing. Leung added that he currently has no special pursuits, only wishing to enjoy each creative process. Enyedi praised Leung as a "master of the highest caliber," stating the role was tailor-made for him from the script's inception. Her own solitary childhood curiosity about communication between humans and other life forms became the starting point for the creation. "Stille Freundin" (你是不會當樹嗎) will be released in Taiwan on April 17.
