Taipei, April 14 (CNA) The Taiwan stock market's weighted index opened higher and continued to rise today, driven by TSMC and Etron Technology reaching new record highs. The index closed at 36296.12 points, a new historical closing high, up 838.83 points, with a total turnover of NT$971.731 billion.

TSMC closed at NT$2055, up NT$65, with its market capitalization climbing to NT$53.29 trillion, contributing approximately 516 points to the overall market. Etron Technology reached a high of NT$13270 during trading and closed at NT$13005, up NT$825.

Other major electronics stocks also performed well, with Hon Hai rising NT$7.5 to close at NT$207.5, MediaTek rising NT$100 to close at NT$1720, Largan Precision closing at its daily limit of NT$2670, and Taimac rising NT$280 to close at NT$3605. The overall electronics sector index rose by 2.64%.

Traditional industry stocks generally closed higher, with the glass sector index rising nearly 7%, plastics sector index rising nearly 5%, and textiles, electromechanical, cables, and automotive sector indices all rising over 1%. Financial stocks also performed well, with their sector index rising over 1%.

Huang Kuo-wei, Vice President of Mega International Investment Consulting, stated that TSMC's investor conference is scheduled for April 16, and major US banks will also successively release their financial reports, which are current market focuses.
