Taipei, April 14 (CNA) In response to the year-end elections, the Taipei Prosecutors Office today convened a meeting with police, investigation, military police, and immigration agencies within its jurisdiction. The meeting aimed to establish an integrated mechanism for intelligence gathering, verification, notification, and analysis, to accurately target high-risk areas and strictly and swiftly handle illegal activities that obstruct elections. The Taipei Prosecutors Office stated that Prosecutor-General Wang Chun-li presided over the meeting, and Chief Prosecutor Li Chung-jen, who serves as the executive secretary for election investigations, reported on key investigation points and intelligence collection essentials. Representatives from the Taipei City Police Department, New Taipei City Police Department, and the Taipei and New Taipei Investigation Offices of the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau then shared their intelligence collection plans and key actions. Wang Chun-li specifically instructed during the meeting to grasp high-risk bribery zones and targets, thoroughly verify and analyze intelligence to ensure its effectiveness, diversify reward mechanisms, and appropriately utilize the 'Election Obstruction Reporting Reward' system to encourage public reporting. He also noted the significant impact of election gambling and called for early clearance of underground gambling venues in the jurisdiction and online, to strictly prevent election gambling from affecting the election outcome. Wang Chun-li also demanded that all units strengthen their enforcement awareness of the National Security Act and Anti-Infiltration Act, monitor abnormal foreign travel activities within their jurisdiction, and prevent external forces from interfering in elections. Regarding election disinformation cases, he stressed adhering to the principles of 'immediate handling, effective clarification, swift removal, and strict investigation' to avoid complacency and ensure election fairness. The Taipei Prosecutors Office emphasized that for the upcoming local public official elections, it will uphold the attitude of 'investigating every lead' and 'prosecuting every evidence,' directing judicial police agencies to actively investigate and handle cases, eliminate illegal activities, and call on the public to bravely report illegal acts that obstruct elections, to jointly purify the election atmosphere and safeguard the democratic system.
