(Central News Agency reporter Xiao Bo-yang, Changhua County, 18th) The 9-day, 8-night Dajia Zhenlan Temple Mazu pilgrimage from Taichung began on the evening of the 17th. The Mazu palanquin entered Changhua County this afternoon, several hours behind schedule as in previous years. It is expected to pass through the Minsheng Underpass, a hotspot for palanquin-grabbing, between late tonight and early tomorrow morning, with police deployed to prevent conflicts.

The Mazu palanquin was escorted into Changhua County this afternoon by Dajia Zhenlan Temple Chairman Yen Ching-piao, Vice Chairman Cheng Ming-kun, and others. The Changhua County Government set up an incense table on Section 3, Zhongshan Road, Changhua City, where Changhua County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei and others welcomed the procession and prayed for Mazu's blessing for the long-term peace and well-being of the area. The county government also welcomed all pilgrims to taste Changhua's local delicacies and visit its characteristic attractions, making the pilgrimage a memorable experience.

Magistrate Wang Hui-mei stated that Changhua residents had just sent off Baishatun Mazu and were now welcoming Dajia Mazu, wishing everyone's wishes come true. She added that Changhua people are enthusiastic and hospitable, and the county government prepared 2,000 tea eggs, beverages, and thousands of bags of peace cakes at the welcoming point to provide free replenishment for accompanying pilgrims on their long journey. The county government also urged the public to minimize firecrackers, practice recycling, and reduce waste.

According to the schedule, the Mazu palanquin was originally set to enter Changhua City at noon today, but due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of devotees along the way, it was delayed until the afternoon, as in previous years. It was scheduled to stay at Nanyao Temple in Changhua City at 9:30 PM, which might be delayed until after midnight tomorrow. Additionally, the Minsheng Underpass in Changhua City has been a hotspot for palanquin-grabbing conflicts in the past. Changhua police will continue to deploy heavy forces and control vehicle access there this year.

Police stated that when the Mazu palanquin passes through the Minsheng Underpass, the east and west ends of the underpass will be completely closed. Officers will control vehicles entering Changmei Road at the intersection of Jinma Road and Changmei Road in Changhua City. Motor vehicles and motorcycles traveling towards Minsheng Underpass from the intersections of Sanmin Road and Zhongmin Street, Sanmin Road and Heping Road, and Zhongzheng Road and Minsheng Road will be redirected to Jianguo South Road, Zhongzheng Road, and Zhongshan Road.
