(CNA Rome 16th) An Italian police source told AFP that 3 robbers broke into a bank in Naples today, taking 25 people hostage for up to 2 hours, before escaping through a tunnel with valuables from the safes.

The source said these masked robbers broke into a Credit Agricole branch in Naples around 11:30 AM (9:30 AM GMT), and one of them was "definitely armed." They held customers and employees hostage, and the hostages were only rescued about two hours later.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), local official Michele di Bari stated that thanks to the rapid response, all hostages were released safely shortly after 1:30 PM with no major injuries.

Based on on-site footage broadcast by local media, police broke the windows to enter the bank.

However, the source stated that the robbers escaped via an underground tunnel leading to the "sewers." He said: "The thieves took away the contents of dozens of safe deposit boxes."

As for the value of the stolen items, the source remarked: "Apart from the clients, no one knows what was inside those safes."

He stated that about 40 police officers are tracking the whereabouts of the robbers in the incident area, with some officers accompanied by sniffer dogs, while forensic teams are collecting fingerprints. (Translators: Yang Chao-yen) 1150417
