(CNA Reporter Pan Chi-yi, Taipei, April 17) Research institute Synergy Research Group stated that AI glasses, with their advantages of fashion, practicality, and low cost, are expected to become an extension of smartphones, driving the extended reality (XR) industry and becoming ideal carriers for AI Agents. It is estimated that global AI glasses shipments, including lightweight augmented reality (AR) glasses, will reach 16.1 million units in 2026, an annual growth of about 72%.

Synergy Research Group's latest report pointed out that with the launch of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in September 2023 igniting the AI glasses market, Ray-Ban Meta's products will accelerate their market entry in 2024 and 2025, gradually forming multiple product lines such as "fashionable general-purpose, practical display, and professional sports types."

Synergy Research Group believes that AI glasses are rekindling hope for the XR industry, and its development will go through three major stages. The first stage is "new form smart wearables," focusing on fashion and customer-centricity to attract mass consumers. The second stage is "personal AI assistants," where AI applications are further expanded, computing power is greatly improved, and beyond photo-taking and real-time translation, it will offer more natural emotional support and daily collaboration. The third stage is "AI data portal for the real world," where the glasses' camera becomes a better data collection portal than smartphones, capturing the hidden intentions and behaviors of the real world, forming AI assets that are scarcer than smartphone data.

Synergy Research Group analyzes that AI glasses are expected to become ideal carriers for agent AI, which will further develop beyond generative AI without human intervention. Major manufacturers are rushing in because AI glasses have characteristics such as "imperceptible, low interference, contextual interaction, first-person view, and always-on." In the short term, AI glasses are a "companion AI entry point"; in the long term, they are considered the ideal carrier for next-generation agent AI. The AI glasses field has rapidly become a contested territory for internet technology giants, consumer electronics leaders, and emerging manufacturers.

Therefore, including Meta, Google, ByteDance, Alibaba, and others are engaging in an AI entry point defense battle to maintain long-term dominance in social, search, and content. Consumer electronics leaders including Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Huawei can use AI glasses as an extension of their smartphone products, ensuring that the AI entry point does not deviate from the existing mainstream device ecosystem.
