Tesla CEO Elon Musk has decided to proceed with the TeraFab plan to build its own wafer fab. At TSMC's earnings call on April 16th, Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei stated that building a new wafer fab takes about two to three years, with an additional one to two years for mass production. He emphasized that there are no shortcuts in the wafer foundry industry, highlighting that TSMC's capital expenditure will remain at the upper limit of $56 billion. Wei also noted that Intel, both a customer and a strong competitor, should not be underestimated. TSMC's first-quarter revenue reached $35.9 billion, driven by strong performance in high-performance computing, IoT, and consumer electronics platforms.
