Tainan City Vice Mayor Yeh Tse-shan and official Jiang Lin-huang, along with Ming Hwa Yuan Artistic Director Chen Sheng-fu, attended the opening ceremony of the "Xichao Art Center" today. Ming Hwa Yuan also presented a performance titled "A Hundred Immortals Congratulate," accompanied by the "Qi Tian Xia" drum performance by the Jiutian Performing Arts Group, marking a new chapter for traditional opera in this performing arts base.
Yeh Tse-shan stated that the "Chao" in "Xichao Art Center" is not just a place to store things, but a place where things "hatch" and "grow," symbolizing the vigorous development of Ming Hwa Yuan's opera culture inheritance and becoming a place where the next generation first experiences and is moved by opera.
The City Government explained that the "Xichao Art Center" will shoulder three major missions: space operations, educational promotion, and cultural tourism. The former site of the "Xichao Art Center" was the Tainan City Weightlifting Hall, completed in 1994. After the city government reclaimed it, it was temporarily used as an alternative venue for seniors before Ming Hwa Yuan ultimately secured the operating rights and renovated it. It is scheduled for trial operation on May 30th and official operation on August 1st, initiating the further evolution of traditional outdoor opera and opening up daily artistic and cultural life in the city.
