The Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) nominee for Taipei mayor has yet to be announced, with rumors suggesting Legislator Shen Po-yang might enter the race. Shen Po-yang, accompanied by Legislator Wu Pei-yi, visited DPP councilors at the Taipei City Council today. Shen stated that his most important current task is to continue focusing on municipal research and exchanging opinions with councilors.

As the DPP prepares for the 2026 county and city mayoral elections, nominations are still pending in several areas, including Taipei City. The DPP's election strategy committee discussed the Taipei and Taoyuan layouts on April 7. There has been no clear progress on the Taipei mayoral nomination. A committee member indicated that the capital's mayoral election is of paramount importance, and nominations should be made cautiously rather than hastily. Discussions included Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun, Legislators Shen Po-yang and Fan Yun, and Kuma Academy founder Enoch Wu.

Shen Po-yang and Legislator Wu Pei-yi, who has registered to run for DPP Taipei City Party Committee chairperson, visited several DPP councilors at the Taipei City Council today and spoke to the media afterward.

Wu Pei-yi stated that since she has registered to run for Taipei City Party Committee chairperson, and the chairperson election is decided by party member votes, she was concerned about a situation where "many respond but no one votes" after announcing her candidacy. She hopes to personally seek support from party councilors, who are old comrades and have often provided assistance, encouraging party members to cast their crucial votes on May 24, and to consult with councilors on strategies for joint operations in the year-end elections.

Shen Po-yang mentioned that he has collaborated with local councilors on petition cases in the past, such as traffic and campus safety issues. Many issues require cooperation between the central and local governments. He took the opportunity of the Taipei City Council session to visit DPP councilors and is continuously striving to learn about Taipei's municipal affairs.

Shen Po-yang expressed that as a Taipei citizen, he certainly hopes Taipei City will become better and aims to upgrade the city systematically. He reiterated that his most important task at this stage is to continue focusing on Taipei's municipal research and to frequently exchange opinions with DPP councilors.

Wang Min-sheng, the DPP Taipei City Council caucus whip, told the media that Shen Po-yang, during his visit to DPP councilors for municipal issue exchanges, mentioned he was considering running for Taipei mayor. Wang felt that Shen was well-prepared, having organized and analyzed councilors' interpellation issues, and believed Shen proposed solutions with innovative thinking, expressing great anticipation for such a mayoral candidate.

Wang Min-sheng added that during his conversation with Shen Po-yang, he found him to be approachable and capable of helping citizens understand his expertise in national defense and cognitive warfare. Regarding whether negative labels previously attached to Shen Po-yang would affect the subsequent Taipei mayoral election, Wang Min-sheng stated that he believed Shen Po-yang would be prepared for this issue and also supported Wu Pei-yi's candidacy for DPP Taipei City Party Committee chairperson.
