(CNA Reporter Wang Cheng-chung, Taipei, 17th) Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-chen attended the inaugural meeting of the "Republic of China (Taiwan) and Canada Parliamentary Friendship Association" today. He stated that interactions between the two parliaments are more flexible, allowing for full communication and frank exchange of views. In the future, the association will become an important exchange platform between the Taiwanese and Canadian parliaments, which is expected to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Legislative Yuan issued a press release today pointing out that Chiang Chi-chen attended the inaugural meeting in the morning, which was initiated by Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Chen Ching-hui. Guests present included dozens of KMT legislators, as well as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi and Niomi Franco, Representative of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.

Chiang Chi-chen expressed his pleasure in witnessing the establishment initiated by Chen Ching-hui, emphasizing that parliamentary exchanges between Taiwan and Canada are close and friendly. Since becoming Vice President, he has hosted five Canadian parliamentary delegations. Although Taiwan and Canada are geographically distant and vastly different in land size, they are highly complementary and can be the best cooperative partners.

Chiang pointed out that Canada has a sizable Taiwanese community, and its natural landscapes and multiculturalism attract many Taiwanese tourists every year. The bilateral relationship is deep and has room for further deepening and expansion.

Chiang emphasized that unlike government or corporate exchanges, parliamentary exchanges are more flexible. The association will serve as a crucial platform. Whether hosting visiting Canadian delegations or organizing visits to Canada, it is expected to strengthen relations, promote closer cooperation, and enhance the well-being of the people of both countries.
