Central News Agency (Reporter Wu Wen-rong, Kinmen, April 14) — China's Xiamen Xiang'an Airport is scheduled to open by the end of this year. Regarding concerns raised by Kinmen County Council members about flight safety, air pollution, and noise, Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-hai stated today that a special task force can be formed between the government and the council, with experts, public representatives, and the county government discussing the matter together.
Kinmen County Council continued its general interpellation agenda. Following yesterday's concerns from independent council member Dong Sen-bao about the potential impact of Xiamen Xiang'an Airport on Kinmen's flight safety and environment, independent council member Wu Pei-wen also stated today that while it would be best if Kinmen could benefit from the Xiang'an Airport's development, "that is not currently the case." However, Kinmen will soon face various issues with the airport's opening at the end of this year, including flight safety, overlapping routes, air pollution, and noise.
Wu Pei-wen also mentioned that in the future, during Kinmen's foggy season or flight route adjustments at Xiang'an Airport, whether Kinmen Shangyi Airport's routes would have to prioritize Xiang'an Airport, as well as the impact of Xiang'an Airport's opening on Kinmen's flight safety, noise, and marine ecology. She urged various county government departments to assess the impact and countermeasures, and how to seek funding from the central government, including plans for noise reduction facilities, to be compiled into a special report for the next provisional meeting.
Regarding the impact of Xiamen Xiang'an Airport, Chen Fu-hai stated that the county government has reported relevant issues to the central government, and local governments should do their part. He also said that the Xiang'an Airport might bring many impacts to Kinmen in the future, and immediately after the meeting, a special task force will be formed with the council to address this issue, stating, "Experts, public representatives, and our county government will discuss it together."
