Kaohsiung City's Education Bureau today joined hands with 13 elementary schools to sign a letter of intent with National Taiwan University (NTU). In the future, the Positive Interpersonal & Life Orientation Training (PILOT) program will be introduced, enabling Kaohsiung students to possess the psychological resilience, interpersonal interaction, and life skills needed to face future challenges.

The Education Bureau held the "Kaohsiung City FY115 PILOT Positive Interpersonal & Life Orientation Training Program" today. During the event, Education Bureau Director Wu Li-sen led representatives from 13 elementary schools in signing the letter of intent with National Taiwan University to introduce the PILOT learning materials.

The Education Bureau explained that the PILOT (Positive Interpersonal & Life Orientation Training) program was developed by the NTU Center for Children and Families, supported by the CTBC Charity Foundation. The program is based on empirical research and aims to build positive psychological curricula for children and adolescents.

The curriculum is specifically designed for upper elementary school students and is promoted through integration into the regular curriculum. Through systematic teaching, it enhances students' emotional management, interpersonal interaction, critical thinking, and life adaptation skills. It is a high-quality program that combines academic rigor with educational practice.

Wu Li-sen stated that in the face of a rapidly changing society, students not only need academic abilities but also require emotional management, interpersonal interaction, problem-solving, and life adaptation skills. Kaohsiung City has been promoting Social Emotional Learning (SEL) policies in recent years. This collaboration with National Taiwan University to introduce the PILOT program hopes to cultivate students' resilience, happiness, and competitiveness through an evidence-based educational model.

Shen Qiong-tao, Director of the NTU Center for Children and Families, stated that the PILOT program has been implemented in many counties and cities such as Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan, with considerable success. This collaboration with Kaohsiung City will combine university research expertise with local educational practices to build a forward-looking campus support system.

Du Chang-lin, principal of the Kaohsiung City SEL Center School, said that promoting SEL education is key to nurturing students' ability to face future challenges. This collaboration will deepen Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in campuses and enhance students' soft skills development. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150418
