(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chiao-lien, Kaohsiung, 15th) The Middle East conflict has impacted the global petrochemical supply chain. Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital (KMUH) today signed a letter of intent with Taiwan Advanced Co., initiating collaboration on localizing key medical devices, such as laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical instruments, aiming to build a 'resilient healthcare national team.'

Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital held a signing press conference today. KMUH Superintendent Wang Chao-yuan stated in his speech that the Middle East conflict has impacted the global petrochemical supply chain, leading to price fluctuations and unstable delivery times for critical medical raw materials. KMUH Medical System is partnering with a leading domestic medical device manufacturer, hoping to establish an autonomous and stable medical supply system amidst the volatile international supply chain.

Wang Chao-yuan stated that this collaboration adopts a 'clinical co-creation' model, allowing frontline physicians to directly participate in optimizing medical device design, enhancing clinical practicality, and shortening development cycles. In the future, there are plans to integrate digital technology to build a smart minimally invasive surgery platform, which will not only improve surgical precision but also jointly promote Taiwan's high-quality medical devices into the global market.

Chen Jung-chien, Vice President of Taiwan Advanced Co., said that the company possesses end-to-end capabilities from R&D to manufacturing, and its laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical instruments already have high competitiveness in the international market. This collaboration with KMUH will establish a complete clinical verification and feedback mechanism, using empirical data to continuously optimize products, improve quality and safety standards, and accelerate the integration of domestically produced medical devices into the clinical system.

Long Chen-yu, Director of KMUH Obstetrics and Gynecology, reported during his briefing that KMUH has already initiated collaborations with Taiwan Advanced Co. in multiple fields, including colorectal surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, general and digestive surgery, and neurosurgery. Research and development projects include a circular anastomotic device to reduce leakage rates, a uterine fibroid suture clip to reduce surgical bleeding, and an AI-monitored laparoscopic trocar expected to alleviate postoperative pain.
