(Central News Agency, New York, April 17, International News) Iran's announcement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz led to a plunge in oil prices and a surge in US stocks today, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 indices reaching new record highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 868.71 points, or 1.79%, at 49447.43 points.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 84.78 points, or 1.20%, to close at 7126.06 points.

The Nasdaq Composite index, dominated by tech stocks, rose 365.78 points, or 1.52%, to close at 24468.48 points.
