Iran Conflict Consumes Weapons, US Reportedly Delays Arms Deliveries to Some European Countries

(Central News Agency, Washington, 16th, comprehensive foreign report) As the conflict with Iran continues to consume weapon stockpiles, it is rumored that US officials have informed some European countries that the delivery schedule for some previously contracted weapons may be delayed.

Reuters, citing multiple unnamed sources, reported that the affected countries include those in the Baltic and Scandinavian regions.

The sources added that some weapons were purchased by European countries through the 'Foreign Military Sales' (FMS) program but have not yet been delivered. The US has recently informed European officials through bilateral channels that relevant deliveries may be delayed.

The White House and the State Department referred inquiries to the Pentagon, but the latter did not respond to requests for comment.

The United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on February 28. These delays highlight that the conflict has begun to consume some of the US's critical weapon and ammunition stockpiles.

Foreign governments purchase US-made weapons through the 'Foreign Military Sales' program with the assistance and consent of the US government. European officials complain that delivery delays make their situation difficult.

During President Trump's tenure, he promoted European NATO allies to increase purchases of US-made military equipment, including through the aforementioned program, to shift Europe's conventional defense responsibilities from the US to European allies.

However, weapon deliveries are often delayed, frustrating European governments, and some officials are gradually considering switching to European-made weapon systems.

US officials stated that these weapons are crucial for the Middle East conflict, while also criticizing European countries for not assisting the US and Israel in ensuring passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

In fact, before the outbreak of the Iran conflict, due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and Israel's military operations in Gaza at the end of 2023, the US had already used billions of dollars in weapon stockpiles, including artillery systems, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles.

Since the start of the conflict, Iran has launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at Persian Gulf countries, most of which have been intercepted by 'Patriot' (PAC-3) missile systems. This system is also important equipment for Ukraine's defense against ballistic missiles and protection of energy and military facilities.

Sources said that some of the affected countries' names are not publicly disclosed, and some of them border Russia, so the progress of weapon deliveries is considered sensitive defense information.
