(Central News Agency reporter Huang Chao-wen, Taipei, April 16) The 13th International Green Smart Transportation Forum and the 1st Asia-Pacific Road Tolling International Summit kicked off today, focusing on smart transportation, AI applications, road tolling systems, and the transition to carbon neutrality in transportation, exploring new directions for future traffic governance.

The forum and summit were jointly organized today at the Nangang Exhibition Center by Far EasTone, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, the Chinese Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems, the Asia-Pacific Road Tolling Alliance, and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

Jian You-xin, Chairman of the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, stated in his opening remarks that the transportation system is being influenced by three forces: digital transformation, the pressure of climate change, and the public's increasing expectations for more convenient and efficient modes of mobility.

Jian You-xin pointed out that these changes are not happening in isolation; they are converging to redefine how society moves, connects, and develops. He noted that Taiwan is increasingly recognizing that smart transportation is not just a technical issue but also crucial for public governance, quality of life, and sustainable development.

The forum's main focus is on smart transportation, AI applications, road tolling systems, and the transition to carbon neutrality in transportation, exploring new directions for future traffic governance. Jian You-xin expressed that Taiwan is committed to learning, innovating, and collaborating with others, and believes that through practical cooperation, experience sharing, and mutual trust among all parties, it can make a significant contribution to the Asia-Pacific region in the future.

Fu Chi-ping, General Manager of Far EasTone, stated that this forum has gradually developed into an important platform for promoting dialogue and global and cross-regional cooperation, and he is honored to contribute to the development of smart transportation. He cited examples such as the launch of the world's first Multi-lane Free-Flow ETC system in 2014 and the installation of over 100,000 smart connected streetlights across Taiwan, which not only save electricity costs for local governments but also improve the quality of life for citizens.

She believes that transportation is no longer just about moving from point A to point B but is an important public infrastructure. Through data collection and analysis, it can be applied to sustainable development, traffic governance, and public safety.

The forum's morning agenda began with the restructuring of road network value and the application of AI and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology, extending to the measurement of carbon reduction benefits and policy translation. The afternoon session focused on "Shaping New Paths for Asia-Pacific Road Tolling Systems." (Editor: Wu Su-rou) 1150416
