EVA Air Celebrates 35 Years of Vienna Route, Now Offering 35 Flights Weekly to Europe

EVA Air is celebrating 35 years since the inaugural flight of its Vienna route. EVA Air President Sun Jia-ming stated that based on this foundation, they have gradually expanded their presence in the European market. Currently, their European network covers six major cities, including Paris, offering 35 weekly round-trip flights to Europe. Since its maiden voyage in November 1991, EVA Air's Taoyuan-Vienna route has now reached its 35th year. EVA Air currently operates one round-trip flight daily between Taoyuan and Vienna, with three of these being direct flights and four making a stop in Bangkok. To commemorate the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Taoyuan-Vienna route, EVA Air was invited to ascend Europe's tallest control tower today. Sun Jia-ming and Vienna Airport Joint CEO Julian Jager exchanged gifts, symbolizing the trust and cooperation between the two parties over the years. Sun Jia-ming remarked that over the past 35 years of flying to Vienna, a strong and trusting partnership has been established. Building upon this, EVA Air has progressively expanded its European market footprint, now encompassing six major cities including Vienna, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Munich, and Milan, offering 35 weekly round-trip flights to Europe. This allows passengers to travel between major Asian and European cities via EVA Air's network. Sun Jia-ming indicated that future European routes, including Barcelona, Helsinki, and previously served Istanbul, are among the options being considered. EVA Air explained that the primary reason for choosing Vienna as its first European destination and first intercontinental route was due to air traffic rights. At the time, obtaining rights for Taiwan was not easy, and while Australia was initially considered, Vienna proved to be relatively more accommodating. EVA Air noted that the passenger ratio for the Taoyuan-Vienna route was historically 30% business and 70% leisure, but it has now shifted to a 50/50 split, with Asian and European passengers each accounting for half, making it a healthy route with passenger load factors exceeding 90%. EVA Air stated that Vienna, as the starting point for EVA Air's foothold in Europe, has long played a crucial role in deepening its presence in Central and Eastern Europe. Through continuous and stable operations, Vienna has been established as a key gateway connecting Europe and Asia, not only boosting tourism but also invigorating local business networks through collaborations in diverse fields such as music, sports, and dining. Furthermore, many travelers to Vienna opt to use the City Airport Train (CAT) for their journeys between Vienna Airport and the central station (Wien Mitte). EVA Air announced that starting May 18, in collaboration with Vienna's CAT, passengers who have completed online check-in beforehand can check in their luggage at the central station up to two hours before their flight departure.
