(Central News Agency, Taipei, April 17th, Comprehensive Foreign Report) According to recruitment information on Tesla's website, Tesla is seeking semiconductor engineers in Taiwan for its artificial intelligence (AI) chip park named Terafab.

Reuters reported that Tesla has posted nine engineering vacancies in Taiwan for the Terafab project, seeking candidates with over five years of experience in advanced chip manufacturing processes.

The job descriptions describe Terafab as a "vertically integrated semiconductor factory" that will integrate logic, memory, packaging, testing, and mask production in the same facility.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the Terafab project last month, aiming to build a large-scale AI chip factory to drive his ambitions in robotics and data centers.

Several of the positions require experience with advanced chip manufacturing nodes below 7nm and mention 2nm-level technology, areas where Taiwan's semiconductor industry possesses extensive expertise.

One of the positions also requires familiarity with advanced packaging processes such as CoWoS and SoIC, both technologies developed by TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker.

These engineering roles cover several core front-end process steps, including lithography, etching, thin film, and chemical mechanical planarization, as well as yield engineering and process integration.

According to the recruitment information, the factory is expected to support multiple chip series, including edge inference processors, space-grade reinforced chips for orbital satellites, and high-bandwidth memory.

Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

With TSMC's capacity constrained, AI demand is driving companies to seek more advanced chip manufacturing capabilities.

When asked about Musk's Terafab project at an investor conference yesterday, TSMC Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei stated that he would not underestimate competitors but emphasized that building a new wafer fab takes 2 to 3 years, and mass production takes another 1 to 2 years, adding that there are "no shortcuts" in wafer foundry.
