(Central News Agency, Tokyo, 18th, Comprehensive Foreign Dispatch) An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.0 and a maximum seismic intensity of upper 5 occurred in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, at approximately 1:20 PM today. It was followed by another earthquake at around 2:54 PM, with an estimated magnitude of 5.1. A maximum seismic intensity of lower 5 was observed in Nagano City and Omachi City. Neither earthquake poses a tsunami threat.
According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), observations by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) indicate that the epicenters of both earthquakes were located in northern Nagano Prefecture, at a depth of about 10 kilometers.
During the earthquake at approximately 2:54 PM (1:54 PM Taipei time), a maximum seismic intensity of lower 5 was observed in Nagano City and Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. Shaking with an intensity of 4 was measured in Ikusaka Village, Matsukawa Village, and Ogawa Village in Nagano Prefecture, while an intensity of 3 was observed in Matsumoto City, Suwa City, Chino City, and Azumino City in Nagano Prefecture.
A wide area, including the Kanto-Koshinetsu region, Tokai region, and Hokuriku region, also experienced shaking ranging from seismic intensity 1 to 2.
