Chinese Seamen's Union Holds Meeting in Penghu, Encouraging Young People to Join Maritime Teams

The Chinese Seamen's Union, along with its branches in Keelung and Kaohsiung, held its 28th Representative Assembly (2nd session) in Penghu for the first time today. Wen Tsung-yu, Secretary-General of the National Confederation of Trade Unions, urged all seamen to defend their maritime labor rights gained through hard work at sea and encouraged more young people to join maritime teams. Yeh Ching-jung, Chairman of the Chinese Seamen's Union, expressed gratitude to Lan Chun-sheng, Chairman of Wisdom Marine, for his assistance in facilitating the event in Penghu, stating that the union will continue to refine its operational model, enhance member services, and actively promote issues concerning seamen's rights to foster the sound development of the entire shipping industry. Yeh Ching-jung also mentioned that the simultaneous holding of representative assemblies by the Chinese Seamen's Union and its Keelung and Kaohsiung branches is a significant innovation in the operation of seamen's unions, effectively improving overall operational efficiency and demonstrating significant advantages in resource integration, real-time information synchronization, and transparency. It was also decided that grand activities will be held at the end of the year to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Seamen's Union, to consolidate consensus and showcase the spirit of unity among seamen's unions. The Chinese Seamen's Union has over 14,000 members, including over 900 foreign members, many of whom are from listed companies in the shipping sector such as Evergreen, Wanhai, Yang Ming, U-Ming, Sizhai, Formosa Plastics, and Uni-President.
