Beijing, April 14 (CNA) China's official media announced today that Sun Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister of China, has been removed from his post. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the State Council of China made personnel changes, including the removal of Sun Weidong from his position as Vice Foreign Minister. Public records show that Sun Weidong was born in September 1966 in Jiangsu. He previously served as a teacher and deputy director at China Foreign Affairs University, Second Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in India, and various roles within the Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In July 2019, Sun Weidong became the Chinese Ambassador to India, and in November 2022, he was appointed Vice Foreign Minister, also serving concurrently as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sun Weidong will turn 60 in September this year. According to Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily, vice-ministerial officials in China typically retire at age 60.
