(CNA reporter Su Chih-yu New Taipei, April 15) The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) game between the Wei Chuan Dragons and Fubon Guardians in Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium was a tight contest in the rain today. Neither team could score through the regulation nine innings, but the Dragons managed to get a precious run in the top of the 10th inning thanks to a hit by Chang Cheng-Yu, securing a 1-0 victory.

The game was briefly suspended due to rain in the bottom of the 4th inning. After play resumed, the Guardians had a golden opportunity with the bases loaded and one out. However, Kuo Tsin-Hsin caught a fly ball hit by Tai Pei-Feng to center field and threw back to second base to double off the runner who had over-extended his lead, resulting in a double play.

In the top of the 7th inning, the Guardians brought in Chang Yi to pitch. The Dragons initially created a rally with consecutive singles by Li Kai-Wei and Wang Shun-Ho to start the inning. However, Lin Chen-Hsun hit a fly ball that was caught by Kung Nien-En, who then threw to first base to pick off the runner, completing another double play.

Guardians' starting pitcher Yu Ting-Wei pitched a complete six innings today, allowing three hits and no runs. His last start of six or more innings with no runs allowed was on April 25, 2021. Dragons' starting pitcher Marcelo Martinez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and no runs. Neither pitcher factored into the decision.

The ninth inning saw a similar script for both teams. In the top of the 9th, Guardians' closer Tseng Chun-Yueh allowed consecutive hits after one out but escaped the jam with two strikeouts. In the bottom of the 9th, Dragons' reliever Lin Hsin-chieh created a crisis with a hit and a walk after one out, but also replicated the two-strikeout escape.

Entering extra innings with the "man on second" rule, the Dragons scored their first run in the top of the 10th inning with a hit by Chang Cheng-Yu. However, they failed to add to their lead with the bases loaded and one out. In the bottom of the 10th, the Guardians' hit-and-run attempt resulted in the runner being thrown out, followed by a strikeout of Chou Chia-Le and a groundout by Yeh Tzu-Ting, preventing the Guardians from scoring.
