Brazil's Representative in Taiwan Declares 'One China,' Premier Cho Expresses Necessary Protest

Taipei, April 14 (CNA) Brazil's representative in Taiwan, Luís Cláudio Villafañe Gomes Santos, stated in a media interview that 'Taiwan is part of China,' sparking widespread discussion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already lodged a strong protest with Santos. Premier Cho Jung-tai said today in an interview, 'We will also make necessary protests,' and hopes to use this case to tell the world that the Republic of China in Taiwan is an unchangeable fact.

Santos, head of the Brazilian Representative Office in Taipei, stated in an interview with Up Media that Taiwan is part of China, and most countries do not recognize Taiwan as an independent state. He noted that the Kuomintang chairman also holds this view, questioning why Brazil should have a different opinion when there is no clear consensus within Taiwan.

Regarding Santos's statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed a strong protest and high dissatisfaction with his false and inappropriate remarks, emphasizing that the two sides of the strait are not subordinate to each other, which is an objective reality.

Today, the Legislative Yuan continued its general interpellation session. Regarding the above issue, Cho Jung-tai told the media before the session that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already responded on the issue of sovereignty.
