(CNA Reporter Zhang Xiongfeng, Taipei, 16th) Meteorologist Wu Derong stated today that northern Taiwan will experience occasional local brief showers today. A weather front will pass by from tomorrow afternoon to the 18th, bringing rain and cooler temperatures to the north and east on the 18th. Weather will stabilize from the 19th to the 21st, but moisture will increase again on the 22nd and 23rd, with another front expected to impact the island starting the 24th.

Wu Derong, an adjunct associate professor at National Central University's Department of Atmospheric Sciences, wrote today in the 'Leaking Heavenly Secrets Classroom' column for the Meteorological Application Promotion Foundation that the latest European model simulations show a weak front lingering over the sea north of Taiwan starting today. Most areas will be mostly cloudy to clear, while northern Taiwan will be slightly affected by the edge of the front, bringing local brief showers and a slight drop in high temperatures, though other areas will remain warm.

Wu noted that new model simulations indicate a weak front will sweep past from tomorrow afternoon through the 18th. Northern Taiwan will turn cloudy tomorrow afternoon, and the northeast will see local brief showers. On the 18th, the rain area will slightly expand, with rain in the north and east. Tomorrow daytime will still be hot, but on the 18th northern Taiwan will turn slightly cooler, while the south remains hot.

Wu explained that from the 19th to the 21st, under the influence of dry air behind the front, weather everywhere will turn sunny and stable. Days will be hot with large temperature differences between day and night, with occasional scattered showers in Hualien and Taitung. On the 22nd and 23rd, moisture around Taiwan will increase, making the atmosphere more unstable. It will be cloudy to clear everywhere, with local showers in mountainous areas in the afternoon and in the eastern half, while remaining hot during the day.

Wu mentioned that a stronger front than the previous one is expected to affect Taiwan and change the weather on the 24th and 25th. Different international models are still adjusting for the late period, requiring continued observation.

Wu stated that the latest data from the Central Weather Administration shows severe Typhoon Sinlaku (international name: SINLAKU) is over the sea north of Guam, turning from north-northwest to north. In the future, it will make a 'large U-turn' over the sea south of Japan. The environmental 'westerly wind shear' will gradually destroy its structure and continue to weaken it, posing no threat to either Taiwan or Japan. (Editor: Li Xizhang) 1150416
