(CNA Reporter Yang Yao-ru, Taipei, 16th) Media reports indicate that the expenses for the KMT delegation led by Chairman Cheng Li-wun to China were applied for from the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD), established with contributions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The TFD stated today that the KMT's proposal explicitly mentions promoting Taiwan's ideals of freedom and democracy to China, and that the foundation is processing it according to the principles of the "Guidelines for the Operation of the Political Party Subsidy Plan."

According to a report by Mirror Media, KMT Chairman Cheng Li-wun recently led a delegation to visit China. They applied for a total of 4.8 million NTD for the 6-day trip from the TFD, which is chaired by Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu. This funding has already passed internal review within the TFD and is being processed for disbursement to the KMT.

The TFD issued a press release pointing out that, in accordance with its founding purpose, it encourages domestic political parties to promote activities related to democracy and human rights, and fosters cooperation between Taiwan and international non-governmental organizations on these issues. To enhance the quality of Taiwan's democracy and its international image, it specifically formulated the "Guidelines for the Operation of the Political Party Subsidy Plan" to accept subsidy applications from political parties.

The TFD explained that the types of party subsidies include activities such as parliamentary diplomacy, domestic and international democratic and human rights exchanges, events that elevate Taiwan's democratic and human rights development and align with international standards, as well as activities that boost Taiwan's international standing and visibility.

The TFD stated that the KMT submitted a proposal titled "Kuomintang Delegation for Exchange and Visit to Mainland China" to the foundation. The proposal explained that the KMT acts as a stable exchange platform and bridge across the strait. Through on-site visits and participation in events hosted on the other side, on a basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit, they aim to create favorable conditions and environments for Taiwanese businesses and compatriots. It also aims to let people and Taiwanese businesspeople in mainland China understand the current state of Taiwan's democratic development. At the same time, it seeks to promote Taiwan's ideals of freedom and democracy to mainland China, advance the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and maintain stability and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait.

The TFD said it is processing the application according to procedures based on the aforementioned party subsidy principles. (Editor: Wan Shu-chang) 1150416
