(CNA Reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, 16th) The New Taipei City Fire Department and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital are promoting the "Doctor Car" initiative, sending emergency physicians to the scenes of critical injuries to enhance the efficiency of pre-hospital care. In the first quarter of this year, it has been dispatched 36 times, including 17 OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) cases, strengthening immediate treatment and increasing the chances of survival for severely ill patients.
The New Taipei City Government Fire Department held a drill today at the Citizen Square for pre-hospital emergency care procedures. This included 119 online dispatcher-assisted CPR (DACPR), multi-track dispatch and transport of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) by police and firefighters, Advanced Life Support (ALS), and the "Doctor Car" pre-hospital physician response team. They also showcased the pre-hospital ECMO activation mechanism.
The Fire Department stated that on January 29 this year, they signed a memorandum of cooperation with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital to establish the "Doctor Car" system. This connects the emergency medical and fire rescue systems, allowing doctors to immediately enter accident scenes for support, fighting for the golden rescue time and enhancing overall medical resilience.
Tsai Kuang-chao, Director of the Safety Department at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, and emergency physician Chu Sheng-en pointed out that according to literature, having doctors, nurses, and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) jointly advance to the scene can increase the overall survival rate of severely ill patients by 1.2 times, among which the OHCA survival rate increases by 1.5 times and the major trauma survival rate increases by 1.4 times.
Chu Sheng-en stated that the "Doctor Car" has already been dispatched 36 times in the first quarter of this year, including 17 OHCA cases. Eight people successfully regained a heartbeat, four recovered and were discharged, and one has already returned to work. In the future, they will evaluate extending the duty hours to expand service capacity.
Fire Department Commissioner Chen Chung-yueh pointed out that the recovery and discharge rate of OHCA patients in New Taipei City has increased from 3.1% in 2010 to 12.13% in 2025. As of March this year, over 3,000 people have been successfully saved cumulatively, demonstrating the effectiveness of the emergency care system.
The event also invited recovered OHCA patients to share their rebirth experiences, and a "Life Lighting Ceremony" was held jointly with emergency responsibility hospitals in Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan. Mayor Hou Yu-ih stated that successfully saving lives relies on the collaboration between fire and medical teams. In the future, they will continue to strengthen the three-layer AED protection network, deepen cross-hospital cooperation, and protect the lives and safety of citizens. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150416
