(CNA Reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Nantou, 16th) A truck driver surnamed Wu was driving along Provincial Highway 14 in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County this morning when he rear-ended a vehicle belonging to the Ren'ai Township Office, causing injuries to four township office personnel. Ren'ai Township Mayor Jiang Zixin said the staff had just finished repairing streetlights and were preparing to leave when the accident occurred; currently, one person remains under observation in the hospital.

The Nantou County Fire Department received a report at around 10:00 AM today stating that a three-vehicle collision had occurred near Nanfeng Bridge on Highway 14, with passengers in a sedan suspected of being trapped. The Fire Department immediately dispatched 4 vehicles and 8 personnel for rescue.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters assessed that the doors of the vehicle with trapped patients were not jammed and could be opened smoothly. They then assisted the four individuals out of the vehicle. After preliminary emergency treatment, all four were sent to the hospital, fortunately with no life-threatening injuries.

The Ren'ai Branch of the Nantou County Police Department explained that the driver surnamed Wu was driving a commercial large truck from Wushe towards Puli. When passing the 67.2 km mark on Highway 14, he accidentally rear-ended a parked sedan in front of him, which then crashed into a small truck ahead of it. The passengers in the sedan all suffered abrasions and contusions. The at-fault driver's alcohol breath test registered zero, and the relevant causes of the accident are being clarified by the police.
