(Central News Agency reporter Zhao Jingyu, Taipei, 16th) The second review meeting of the "8th Public Television Board of Directors and Supervisors Review Committee" was scheduled to be held this afternoon. Due to the resignation of 8 review committee members on the 9th, today's meeting failed to reach the statutory quorum and was cancelled without substantive review.

Prior to the meeting, Culture Minister Li Yuan stated that the "collective resignation" was incomprehensible, but he would continue to insist on respecting the provisions of the "Public Television Act" and bring the election process back on track.

The term of the 7th PTS board of directors and supervisors expired on May 19, 2025, over 10 months ago. In mid-December 2025, the Executive Yuan proposed 14 board candidates, including Ju Tzong-ching and Stan Shih. On December 31, 2025, the first board review meeting was held, and only 4 candidates, including Ju Tzong-ching, passed the review. Seven 7th-term board members, including Stan Shih, were rejected, resulting in the final number of approved members falling short of the standard to form a board.

On March 12 this year, the Executive Yuan nominated a second list for the "8th PTS Board of Directors and Supervisors," comprising 10 board candidates and 1 supervisor candidate, to be reviewed by the review committee nominated by various party caucuses in the Legislative Yuan. The 10 supplementary PTS board candidates are Jiang Qian-wei, Wu Qi-xun, Lee Chih-kai, Ruan Jin-hong, Lin Zhao-zhen, Gao Yi-feng, Chen Jie-yao, Peng Cheng-min, Kay Huang, and Zhan Yi-yi, along with 1 supervisor candidate, Lin Jia-ying.

When the Ministry of Culture surveyed times for the review committee in mid-March, it had originally determined that the number of attendees on April 1 would meet the statutory meeting quorum. However, considering that the number of members nominated by the opposition party was lower than that of the ruling party, for the sake of fairness, the Ministry of Culture re-surveyed and decided to convene the review meeting on April 16.

On the 9th, 8 review committee members, including Wu Yong-qian, Dong Bao-cheng, Du Sheng-cong, Liao Yuan-hao, Xu Liang-yuan, Luo Guo-jun, Ma Yong-rui, and Pan Zu-yin, nominated by the opposition party, resigned via a joint open letter to Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu, arguing that Culture Minister Li Yuan violated the precedent of prior consultation on candidate lists among different political parties in the parliament. None of the resigning members attended today's meeting, causing it to be cancelled.

Culture Minister Li Yuan stated before the meeting that the Legislative Yuan had not accepted the resignation of these 8 members. According to the "Public Television Act," the Executive Yuan will be asked to request the Legislative Yuan to nominate new members so that the next review meeting can be convened.

Li Yuan emphasized that the demand for a "party consultation" list by the review committee is "asking the impossible," and his second wave of board candidate lists will not change. "I hope we live in a country governed by law, not an era governed by men. I hope we live in a country with right and wrong, not an era where right and wrong are reversed."

Li Yuan stated that the candidate list this time is entirely based on considerations for the future direction and even reform of Taiwan's Public Broadcasting Group. "The various problems and operational dilemmas faced by traditional media recently will also happen to public media."

Li Yuan said the key to continuing to exert influence in society is the special inclusion of experts in new media, digital learning, and even cybersecurity in the list, such as Jiang Qian-wei and Wu Qi-xun. In terms of diverse ethnic groups, outstanding young generations with the most representation from different ethnic groups were also selected, such as Chen Jie-yao, Gao Yi-feng, and Ruan Jin-hong.

Li Yuan added, "Respected and recognized figures in the communication field like Kay Huang, Zhan Yi-yi, and Lin Zhao-zhen are also willing to use the reputation they have cultivated over a long period to support us." Li Yuan emphasized that a younger, professional, ethnically balanced, and cross-disciplinary approach "is the best candidate list that looks to the future and is fully prepared, and it will not change."
