The Taiwan stock market opened high and went strong today, breaking the 37,000-point threshold during the session to touch 37,064.16 points, a massive surge of 768.04 points, setting a new intraday historical high. After midday, the gains gradually narrowed, and the 37,000-point mark was lost.
The final weighted index stood at 36,722.14 points, up 426.02 points, setting a new closing high. The trading volume was approximately NT$982.005 billion. The electronics index surged by 1.4% at the close, the financial index rose by 0.45%, and the OTC index, representing small and medium-sized stocks, closed up 1.08%.
