The Taipei Egg Dealers Association has decided to raise egg prices by NT$3 per catty this week, resulting in a total increase of NT$6 per catty over the past two weeks. Specifically, the farm gate price has been adjusted from NT$31.5 to NT$34.5 per catty, and the wholesale price from NT$41 to NT$44 per catty. According to Lin Tian-lai, chairman of the association, this price hike is primarily attributed to production adjustments undertaken by egg producers after the Qingming Festival, which led to a reduction in supply and subsequently drove up market prices. It is noted that prior to this increase, egg prices had experienced a decline of NT$6 per catty from mid-March until the eve of the Qingming Festival. As Taipei City serves as the largest hub for egg distribution in Taiwan, the pricing announced by its egg dealers association frequently acts as a benchmark for other cities and counties.
