(CNA Reporter Yang Siyuan, Tainan, 14th) Tainan police received reports from construction companies being extorted by unscrupulous individuals. These individuals demanded exorbitant "local processing fees" under pretexts such as failing to report construction plans in advance. Following an investigation, police arrested 12 suspects, including the mastermind named Zhong, and seized a batch of weapons.

Li Zhengxian, Deputy Commander of the Criminal Investigation Corps of the Tainan City Police Bureau, told the media today that during a special operation to crack down on gangs, the bureau discovered that construction companies were being systematically extorted. Local gangsters, posing as neighborhood residents, used the excuse of unnotified construction to force contractors into paying "local processing fees."

Li stated that after months of gathering evidence, it was found that the main suspect, Zhong, led a group to intimidate site managers and personnel, demanding high "processing fees." Under the direction of the Tainan District Prosecutors Office, a special task force was formed to arrest Zhong and 11 other members.

According to Li, officers seized evidence including aluminum bats, machetes, pepper spray, air guns, an imitation MP5 electric airsoft gun, a laptop, a magnetic board reading "Pay Back Owed Money," and megaphones. Following the investigation, the suspects were transferred to the Tainan District Prosecutors Office on charges including violations of the Organized Crime Prevention Act, coercion, extortion, and the Company Act.
