On April 13, Kyoto Prefectural Police announced the discovery of suspected remains of an 11-year-old boy in a mountainous area of Nantan City. The boy, a student at Nantan Municipal Sonobe Elementary School, had been missing since March 23. He was last seen around 8:00 AM on March 23 when his father dropped him off near the school. He did not attend the graduation ceremony that day, and his disappearance was confirmed after the school contacted his family around 11:45 AM. School surveillance cameras did not capture his image. His yellow backpack was found by his family on March 29 along a mountain road approximately 3 kilometers west of the school. Yesterday, police found athletic shoes similar to those he was wearing in a mountainous area approximately 6 kilometers southwest of the school. The Kyoto Prefectural Police mobilized approximately 1,000 officers for a large-scale search of the mountainous areas and surrounding ponds, but no other critical physical evidence, eyewitness testimonies, or surveillance footage has been obtained.
