(CNA Reporter Li Hsien-feng, Hualien County, 14th) A rockfall occurred early this evening on the Liufang Bridge section between 173.8k and 174k of Provincial Highway 8 on the Central Cross-Island Highway. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but many vehicles were blocked. Personnel and equipment from the Taroko Maintenance Office of the Highway Bureau were dispatched to handle the situation, and the road was cleared at 6:20 PM, allowing stranded vehicles to descend the mountain safely.

The Xincheng Precinct of the Hualien County Police Bureau stated that around 5 PM today, they received a report of falling rocks rolling from the upper slope onto the road at the Liufang Bridge section. Police officers, along with personnel and equipment from the Taroko Maintenance Office, rushed to the scene. Due to continuous rockfalls, the police implemented traffic controls at both ends of the affected road to ensure driving safety.

The Eastern Region Branch of the Highway Bureau stated that after clearing, the road was reopened at 6:20 PM, and the blocked vehicles smoothly went down the mountain.

The Xincheng Police Precinct pointed out that the weather in the mountainous area of Taroko National Park has been unstable recently, and loose rocks and soil may easily roll down. They urged road users to heighten their vigilance when driving on mountain roads of the Central Cross-Island Highway. If they spot scattered small falling rocks, falling dust, or hear unusual sounds, it is highly likely a precursor to a larger rockfall, and they should quickly leave the area rather than stay to observe or get out of the car to move rocks.
