Kaohsiung, April 14 (CNA) The main venue of Kaohsiung's "Sanmin Sports Center," formerly the Yangming Skating Rink, has been completed recently. The Sports Development Bureau will subsequently commission an operating vendor to move in, handle interior decoration, and prepare for the opening. It is expected to commence operations by mid-2026.

The "Kaohsiung City Sanmin District National Sports Center Construction Project" was commissioned by the city's Sports Development Bureau to the city's Water Resources Bureau for construction. The site was originally the Yangming Skating Rink. After demolishing the existing buildings, it was rebuilt with green building concepts that integrate ecology, energy saving, waste reduction, and health needs. The building's exterior adopts a modern and minimalist style.

The Water Resources Bureau announced today in a press release that the main venue of the "Sanmin Sports Center" has been completed. The Sports Development Bureau will take over, and the commissioned operating vendor will move in to handle interior decoration and pre-opening preparations. It is expected to commence operations by mid-2026, providing citizens with a high-quality sports environment.

The Water Resources Bureau stated that the center's total project cost is approximately NT$760 million, creating a sports center with one basement level and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of nearly 8,708 square meters (about 2,634 pings). It includes core spaces such as a swimming pool, sauna, SPA pool, and multi-purpose courts.

The building's exterior is accented with orange, creating a sunny, bright, warm, and healthy spatial imagery. The building's mass presents a dynamic posture with staggered rotations, and the roof design incorporates wavy undulations, enriched with lighting design for night illumination, shaping a new landmark.
