Wu Chia-yen, who just turned 22 on March 25 this year, obtained her membership for the main tour of the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) in 2023. In her rookie year, she participated in only 8 main tour events and 18 lower-tier tour events, officially starting her Japan tour journey in 2024.

Late last year, Wu Chia-yen won her first career title on the Japan tour at the JLPGA Daio Paper Elleair Ladies Open. This year, she secured a championship trophy in just the 6th tournament of the season.

Wu's performance in the first 5 tournaments of this season was not as expected, as she failed to make the cut in 3 of them. It wasn't until last week's Yamaha Ladies Open that she achieved a good result, tying for 9th place.

Wu told a CNA reporter today, "It's actually a bit of a surprise, I didn't expect the first win of the year to come so quickly. I played really well last week, which gave me a lot of confidence."

Additionally, Wu's switch to a long putter a month ago has been a key factor in her rapid improvement. She said, "My putting has been much more stable in the past two weeks, which in turn has made me more daring with my irons, creating many opportunities for myself."

Wu emphasized, "My putting wasn't that good before, so if my iron play wasn't good, it was hard to get a good score. But now that my putting has stabilized, I can concentrate on my iron strategy."

Having won one title last year and one this year, Wu said with a laugh, "Last year I cried a lot, maybe I released all the pressure. Today I didn't cry at all, I just kept smiling. That should be the biggest difference."

Wu mentioned that while she is happy to win the championship, she hopes her performance can remain stable. Of course, she wants to win more championships to perform even better on the Japan tour. (Edited by Chang Ya-ching) 1150412
