The Indonesian Ministry of Defense stated today that Indonesia and the United States are discussing a proposal that would allow US military aircraft to fly over Indonesian airspace, but no agreement has been reached between the two parties.
Several media outlets reported yesterday that the US was seeking "full night transit rights" for its military aircraft in Indonesian airspace, and that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had approved the proposal.
In response to these reports, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense clarified in a statement that Indonesia and the United States are still discussing a "Letter of Intent." Currently, there is only a preliminary draft, and internal consultations are ongoing. This draft has not yet been finalized and is not legally binding.
The Indonesian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the jurisdiction over Indonesian airspace belongs to Indonesia, and any agreement signed with other countries will uphold Indonesian sovereignty and comply with Indonesian law.
According to a US government announcement, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is expected to meet with Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin later today. (Compiled by Hong Peiying) 1150413
