Agence France-Presse reported that according to official election results, with nearly 67% of votes counted, Peter Magyar's center-right Respect and Freedom Party (TISZA) had already secured 137 seats, exceeding two-thirds of the 199-seat parliament, leading Viktor Orban's nationalist Fidesz-MPP party.
While vote counting was still underway, Orban stated: "Although the election results are not yet final, they are already clear and understandable. For us, this is painful, but also clear."
He added, "We did not gain the responsibility and opportunity to govern the country. I have already congratulated the winning party."
Voting ended at 7 PM local time today. As of 6:30 PM, the voter turnout reached 77.8%, higher than the historical record of 70.5% set in 2002. (Compiled by Ho Hung-ju) 1150413
