(CNA, Taipei, 13th) The Hong Dao Foundation today awarded bonus money to medal-winning athletes from the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. Gold medalists pocketed NT$10 million, while silver and bronze medalists received NT$2 million and NT$1 million respectively, with the total payout reaching NT$50 million. Chairman Lin Hong-dao expressed his gratitude to the athletes and coaches for their dedication in fighting for the country's glory together.

The Hong Dao Sports Development Foundation gave out a total of NT$50 million today. Among the recipients, Tokyo Olympics women's weightlifting gold medalist Kuo Hsing-chun, Tokyo and Paris Olympics badminton double-gold medalists Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin, and Paris Olympics women's boxing gold medalist Lin Yu-ting each took home NT$10 million.

During his speech, Hong Dao Foundation Chairman Lin Hong-dao mentioned that when he served as the president of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, he fought wonderful battles alongside many athletes. Regardless of the sporting event, he is most grateful to the athletes and coaches for making Taiwan shine together.

Lin Hong-dao also recalled that before the 2016 Rio Olympics, he discussed with the then Sports Administration Director-General Ho Jow-fei that athletes should be allowed to fly business class so they could recover from fatigue in the shortest time possible. "At that time, I was also thinking about what could be done to get athletes more resources and help, so I announced a sponsorship of NT$10 million for Olympic gold medalists."

Lin laughed and said, "Over the past few years, I've been thinking about whether the medalists from the Tokyo and Paris Olympics should also receive bonuses to be fair. So, I must apologize to the athletes that this bonus came a bit late."

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, "Weightlifting Goddess" Kuo Hsing-chun also expressed her gratitude for Chairman Lin Hong-dao's continuous support for athletes. "Whenever I fall into a slump or hit a bottleneck, he always continues to encourage me and invites me to visit grassroots levels with the foundation to rediscover the original passion for sports."

Kuo emphasized that with so many athletes gathered together today, the point isn't who received how much money, "but rather that everyone has been working hard to make sports in Taiwan different." (Editor: Chen Ching-fang) 1150413
