(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, 13th) The "2026 Taipei 2nd Capital Cup International Skills Competition" held its launch ceremony today. Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced that the event will be held from May 26 to 28, with its scale expanded to 15 countries and 10 categories, deepening international exchange and helping students align with industry developments and global trends.

Chiang Wan-an attended the "2026 Taipei 2nd Capital Cup International Skills Competition Launch Ceremony" hosted by the Department of Education today. The Department of Education stated that this event will become an important prelude for domestic competitors participating in the September Shanghai International Skills Competition.

During his speech, Chiang Wan-an said that the scale of the competition has expanded this time, with participants increasing from 9 countries to 15, and the number of competitors rising from 43 to 62. The prize money has also been increased, with gold medalists receiving 240,000 NTD, silver medalists 120,000 NTD, and bronze medalists 80,000 NTD. The competition categories have expanded from 7 to 10. The key focus is to help students showcase their talents and keep up with international trends in response to rapid industrial development.

He mentioned that therefore, the focus this year is on smart manufacturing and digital transformation, including automotive technology, refrigeration and air conditioning, painting and decorating, and Industry 4.0, hoping that all participating students will have the opportunity to interact with top international talents.

Chiang Wan-an also stated that, on the other hand, he hopes the participating students, besides already showing top-tier performance in national competitions, can see what makes international competitors great, engage in mutual learning and exchange, and have the opportunity to stand on the international stage and be seen by the world in the future. He also hopes to broaden students' horizons and international exchanges during their formative years, believing this will be highly beneficial for their future lives.

Finally, he recounted the outstanding performances of Taipei competitors, including winning 10 golds, 11 silvers, and 12 bronzes at the national skills competition last year, 44 Golden Hand Awards at the national high school skills competition, all competitors winning medals (3 golds, 1 silver) at the WorldSkills Asia Competition, and Liu Yen-fu from Nangang Vocational High School winning the "Best of Nation" award at the WorldSkills Asia Competition. He expects the competitors to have a strong showing in May. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150413
