Xiluan Mountain Slope Fall Injures Female Hiker, Foreign Man's Eye Injury Leads to Two Rescues in Nantou

The Nantou County Government Fire Department announced today that a report was received yesterday afternoon regarding a group of 4 people who entered the mountains from the Shuanglong Forest Road in Xinyi Township yesterday morning to climb Xiluan Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 3081 meters. They were scheduled to descend on the 11th. A 60-year-old female hiker surnamed Wu, while walking on the Shuanglong Forest Road at the 3.5km mark, accidentally slipped down a slope of about 2 meters, causing an injury to her right knee, making her unable to move, but she was conscious and requested assistance from the fire department. The fire department stated that they dispatched 9 personnel who arrived at the end of the drivable road on the Shuanglong Forest Road around 4 PM yesterday and proceeded on foot into the mountain. Last night, after contact and assessment, Ms. Wu's right knee was swollen, painful, and she could not stand. She was carried by basket stretcher. Around 10 PM last night, she reached the location where the ambulance could park. At 11:59 PM, she was sent to Zhushan Show Chuan Hospital. A total of 9 people worked for 8 hours and 30 minutes to transport the injured person through rugged mountain paths in the dark, completing the mission. Additionally, a foreign male and female hiker entered the mountains from Xinyi Township to traverse the Southern Second Section of the Central Mountain Range. The man sustained a right eye injury, causing blurred vision and inability to walk. This morning, their location was at the Central Gold Mine Cabin. The Nantou County Fire Department applied for assistance from the National Airborne Service Corps, Ministry of the Interior. A helicopter from the Second Brigade, Third Squadron of the Airborne Service Corps took off from Taichung Ching Chuan Kang this morning to rescue the injured person and transport them to the hospital.
