Taipower recently announced that due to the uncertain outlook of Middle Eastern conflicts, to assist CPC Corporation in increasing its natural gas dispatch flexibility and following common practices in neighboring countries, it will temporarily increase coal-fired power generation starting in May and will purchase electricity from the Mailiao Power Plant. However, the total annual coal consumption will not exceed last year's levels.

Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin today reported to the Legislative Yuan on the evaluation, planning, and related issues of the 'Taiwan-US Tariff Agreement (ART)' concerning 'Expanded Procurement and Purchase' (of crude oil, natural gas, power generation equipment, etc.) and the capital increase for CPC Corporation. He also faced interpellations. Legislators Lai Shyh-bao (KMT), Liu Shu-bin (TPP), and Chung Chia-pin (DPP) expressed concerns regarding the inventory of coal-fired power and other electricity sources.

Regarding the short-term dispatch of the Mailiao Power Plant, Tseng Wen-sheng stated that this case requires a new tender. Taipower expects to complete the bidding process by mid-April, followed by a period of preparation, with power generation projected to begin by the end of April. Kung Ming-hsin emphasized that coal usage will absolutely not exceed last year's levels. Kung Ming-hsin told reporters before the session that the short-term dispatch period is three months.

Taipower explained that units 1 and 3 of the private Mailiao Power Plant currently possess operating permits and electricity licenses, allowing them to operate legally. They have also installed environmental improvement measures such as wet electrostatic precipitators to further reduce air pollution emissions. Taipower will maintain close communication with local governments and continue to monitor changes in the international energy situation, adjusting response strategies accordingly to ensure public electricity demand is met.
