Green Party: Blue Camp's So-called Peace Trip is a Death Warrant for the Republic of China

The Democratic Progressive Party's China Affairs Department issued a statement via Facebook, asserting that Cheng Li-wen's visit to China is not a "peace trip" but a political operation disguised as "peace" that effectively weakens Taiwan and endangers the survival of the Republic of China. The DPP's China Affairs Department pointed out that every interaction between the KMT and the CCP has been labeled a "historic peace trip," yet the CCP's military intimidation and diplomatic pressure on Taiwan have not decreased but have intensified, coupled with economic coercion on agricultural and fishery products, the co-optation of comprador business structures, infiltration by Chinese spies, and cognitive warfare. The CCP's "peace" has always been an extension of pressure and united front tactics against Taiwan. The DPP's China Affairs Department stated that during their visit to China, Cheng Li-wen and the KMT completely avoided mentioning the "Republic of China" and Taiwan's "democracy and freedom." Cheng Li-wen's fervent pursuit of a "Xi-Cheng meeting" and cooperation in shaping the CCP's political narrative is essentially creating a "historic moment" for the People's Republic of China, marginalizing the Republic of China in history, or even silencing it entirely. The DPP's China Affairs Department further noted that China's military spending this year is as high as approximately NT$8.8 trillion, a 7% increase, which is 11 times Taiwan's military budget. While Chinese aircraft and warships continue to harass Taiwan and coast guard vessels intrude into Kinmen waters, even establishing a nearly 40-day no-fly zone, displaying a quasi-wartime posture, the KMT has instead chosen to delay defense budgets, obstruct arms purchases, and weaken the foundation of US-Taiwan cooperation through "suspicion of US" theories.
